Catherine's Traditional Yuletide Service of Carols Spotlights Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a blend of carols, music and readings from actors such as award-winning actors.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a message before the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
